Poker Hand Ranking for Low hands - Ace to Five
Introduction
Some of poker games, such as Omaha Hi/Lo doesn’t only look for the highest possible card combination but also for the lowest hand. Aside from knowing the highest card combination, you also need to know the lowest card combination.
There are three basic rules that you should know in ranking low card games:
- Ace is the lowest, not the highest
- Flush and Straight doesn’t count for anything
- The lowest cards hand are rank from the highest card to the lowest one.
Low Hand Rnaking (top 10):
- Ace-2-3-4-5 (Best Possible Combination)
- Ace-2-3-4-6
- Ace-2-3-5-6
- Ace-2-4-5-6
- Ace-3-4-5-6
- 2-3-4-5-6
- Ace-2-3-4-7
- Ace-2-3-5-7
- Ace-2-4-5-7
- Ace-3-4-5-7
Low Hands Partten:
You may notice that 23456 is actually ranked lower (better) than Ace2347. As we have already indicated, to determine who has the lowest set of cards, you have to look first at the highest card on that set. Since six is the highest card in the first hand and lower than seven of the second hand, the hand with 2 (as the lowest card) wins the hand with the ace.
Eight or better :
In some variation of poker games like Omaha Hi/Lo, which is 8 or Better, only cards that are eight or lower can be admitted in the Hi/Lo Eight or Better game. In another poker game variation called razz, a higher card is still admitted only for the reason of determining who gets to start the bet of the game.
